The UNESCO 32nd General Conference adopted on 17th October 1972 the Convention for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage. This Convention established two new Lists of Elements for Intangible Culture:
- Representative List of the Intangible Heritage of Humanity
- List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage in Need of Urgent Safeguarding
On 18th February 2009, the Czech Republic stored the accession documents regarding the Convention on the Safeguarding of the Intangible Heritage of Humanity in UNESCO seat. The Czech Republic became the 109th country that acceded to the Convention. The inscription on the international representative list is conditioned by the previous inscription on the List of the Intangible Elements of Traditional Folk Culture of the Czech Republic.
